Yahoo Pal is an add-on software for the popular IM software Yahoo! Messenger. It adds some features and bypasses some limitation imposed by Yahoo! Messenger, and that can make your IM more interesting.

Yahoo Pal is an invisible program, it will automatically attach to running Yahoo! Messenger and new Yahoo! Messengers you run after Yahoo Pal, and add menu bar to the Yahoo! Messenger windows. You can also quit it by clicking its menu.

Yahoo Pal Features:

· Allow multiple accounts on the same computer: By default, only one account is allowed to logon on one machine. If you have more than one Yahoo! IM account, it is definitely a problem. With Yahoo! Pal, you can log on all of your Yahoo! IM accounts if you want.

· Automatically reply when you are away: Although you can specify customized status in Yahoo! Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger won’t do auto reply for you when you are away. With Yahoo! Pal, you can specify a customized message as auto reply message, Yahoo! Pal will automatically send it for you when you enable the auto reply function in Yahoo! Pal. You can specify different auto reply messages for different accounts on the same machine.

· Hotkey to hide Yahoo! Messengers windows: To protect your conversations, you can define a hotkey for special function. Once this hotkey is pressed, all existing Yahoo! Windows including the system bar icons will be hidden automatically. If your friend sends IM to you when you already hide Yahoo!, the new IM window won’t pop up. Press the hotkey again, all Yahoo! Windows and system bar icons will appear.

· Send a random quote to your friend: Yahoo! Pal is able to print a random, hopefully interesting, adage or quote. If you used UNIX fortune before, you will have more idea about this function. Yahoo! Pal stores over 16000 quotes and adages. They cover art, computers, cookie, definitions, drugs, education, ethnic, food, fortunes, humorists, kids, law, linuxcookie, literature, love, magic, medicine, men-women, news, people, pets, platitudes, politics, riddles, science, songs-poems, sports, startrek, wisdom, work and miscellaneous. Most of them are inoffensive, and other are offensive. You can send inoffensive or offensive ones to your friend depending on your relationship with your friend.

"It's actually very simple. Live Messenger get's all it's ad information from a host called rad.msn.com (remote advertisment!?) and since it's possible to tell Windows to not lookup a host through the host file and one can quickly get rid of the ads in Messenger.

You need administrative privligaes for this and if you are running Vista and have UAC enabled you need to make sure you launch both Notepad.exe and Cmd.exe with elevation (Shift right-click them in the start-menu and choose run as administrator)..."

Pownce is a way to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends. You'll create a network of the people you know and then you can share stuff with all of them, just a few of them, or even just one other person really fast.

You might send an event out to a dozen of your friends letting them know you're hosting a party this Friday. They could easily get the event details you entered, respond with questions or comments and then quickly rsvp.

Say you had a great photo you wanted to share with all of your friends. Just add the file and all of your friends will get it right away. They'll be able to reply and tell you if it's cool. You could even post songs you recorded in your home studio to share with your friends.

Only the people you choose get to see what you sent. Kind of like CC'ing an email, only recipients can see and respond to what you send. You can make public notes too that (you guessed it) the public at large can read and respond to

Pownce is still in an invite only mode so the system can be monitored and scaled accordingly. Users who want to get in on this application can sign up on the Pownce website.

"I use Lotus Sametime 7.5 (and soon 7.5.1) for instant messaging at work. the memory usage is a bit tough to swallow but some of the integrated features more than make up for it.

One thing has bothered me. From the start, I tried to create some informative status messages so people could better decide how and when to reach me. I might include a different phone number when working from a remote location or I might indicate I was MBWT and would be back at a specific time. Most of these status messages were one-time deals. In a few cases they were never used (for example if I made a typo in the message).

Sametime keeps track of old status messages so you can reuse them. But what if you don’t plan to ever reuse a message ? How do you clean up that history - delete old or unused status messages ? You need to be willing to edit a couple of files. Here are the steps:"

SparkSpark software was designed to be an Open Source, cross-platform IM client optimized for businesses and organizations. Spark features built-in support for group chat, telephony integration, and strong security. Spark also offers a great end-user experience with features like in-line spell checking, group chat room bookmarks, and tabbed conversations.

Sparkplugs dynamically extend the features of the Spark instant messaging client. Use Sparkplugs to customize Spark for your business or organization or to add an innovative twist to instant messaging. The extensive plugin API allows for complete client flexibility but is still simple and (we hope!) fun to use.

The Spark API provides a framework for adding extensions on top of the protocol and/or UI of the Spark client. For example, you could write your own message filter or add a button to a chat room and send files using the File Transfer API.

The Spark API has the following characteristics:

· Several event listeners to either intercept, be informed of, or execute custom code in response to a particular IM event.
· Thorough tie-ins to the UI to allow for customization from simple icon changes, to adding buttons, to adding your own menu items.
· Ability to add your own XMPP functions using the SMACK API.
· Managers - Managers allow for better (lazy) loading of particular areas within the Spark client as well as providing access points to the system. Some of the more relevant managers are:
· SparkManager -- Acts as the central manager for all of Spark. You use this manager to get instances of ChatManager, SessionManager, SoundManager, and UserManager.
· ChatManager -- Handles registration of most chat listeners and filters, as well as creation and retrieval of chat rooms. It is also used to retrieve the UI of the ChatFrame.
· SessionManager -- Contains the information about the current session, such as the server connected to, the handling of connection errors and notification of personal presence changes.
· SoundManager -- Used to play sounds.
· Event Handlers -- Spark contains numerous listeners and handlers to allow more pluggability into the Spark client. Some of the more common listeners and handlers are:
· ChatRoomListener (and ChatRoomListenerAdapter) -- Allows the plugin to listen for chat rooms being opened, closed and activated. You would generally use this to customize individual chat rooms.
· MessageListener -- Allows for notification when a message has been received or sent.
· ContactGroupListener -- Allows for notification of changes to a Contact Group.
· ContactListListener -- Allows for notification of changes to the Contact List.
· TransferListener -- Allows you to intercept File transfers.
· ContextMenuListener -- Allows for the addition or removal of actions or menu items to right-click (context menu) popups.
· PresenceListener -- Allows for notification when Spark presence changes.
· ContactItemHandler -- Allows the plugin to control the effects of presence changes within a ContactItem and the associated invoke call.
· Components -- Spark contains many Swing components that will regularly be used during the creation of your plugin. Some of the more commonly used components are :
· MainWindow -- The frame containing the Contact List. You use MainWindow to add new tabs, menu items, or force focus.
· ChatRoom -- The base abstract class of all chat rooms within Spark. Known implementations are ChatRoomImpl and GroupChatRoom.
· ChatArea -- The base chat viewer for both the TranscriptWindow and ChatInputEditor.
· ContactList -- The ContactList UI in Spark.
· ChatRoomButton -- The button that should be used to conform to the look and feel of other buttons within a ChatRoom.

Pidgin-Encryption Plugin

June 20, 2007

Pidgin is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, and Zephyr networks.

Pidgin-Encryption transparently encrypts your instant messages with RSA encryption. Easy-to-use, but very secure.

Pidgin-Encryption Plugin Features:

* Automatically creates a public/private key pair for you upon loading the plugin
* Automatically transmits your public key to other users.
* Supports 512 - 4096 bit keys.
* Saves keys of known users, and warns you if their public key has changed.
* Embeds all encryption and keys inside HTML, so if the other user doesn't have the plugin, they will get a little message telling them about the plugin, and won't get a screen full of garbage.
* Stores keys in human readable files in your .gaim/.pidgin directory, in case you ever need to copy/edit them by hand. Which you really shouldn't have to do.
* Automatically recognizes if you are chatting with someone who has the plugin- see the Preferences dialog.
* Available for the Windows version of Pidgin.
* Modular and extensible. If you want to define a different type of encryption, you can use this plugin as a wrapper to take care of transporting the encrypted binary over the IM pipe.

"There is a new desktop application in the works that is going to integrate an instant messenger application with the Facebook platform. This is pretty slick. The application will display all of your friends and allow video chat, video messaging, and more.

Airwaves is a combination of Adobe’s AIR (previously Apollo) and the Yahoo! Messenger Vista client. While there has been much discussion throughout the blogosphere already, I couldn’t help but comment on it. This is what I always expected of an instant messaging client. I have always theorized about an instant messaging application that gives you access to all of your friend’s profiles, pictures, videos, and friends directly from the application itself. Having access to all of your contacts and their self-expressive media from one simple application would be a revolution in communications..."

With SplitCam you can connect up to 64 clients to a single video source.

You can as well use SplitCam to send your home videos at the same time to many video conference programs, for example your friend using MSN messenger can see your home video or your favorite DVD disk live and other friend uses Yahoo messenger want to see it too so how can you at the same time to send it to both of them and to see it on your computer as well? SplitCam allow this operation to happen, you can watch the video file and at the same time to send it over the internet to any video chat or video conferencing software, we are the only software on the net that allow it.

Because these viruses often spoof the identity of friends on a buddy list, users of these services are highly susceptible to infection unless proper precautions are taken. Here are several rules for using instant messaging services securely:
